Subway
Sofia has two underground lines which interact in the center of the city at the Serdika station. The red line 1 runs from Busyness Park Sofia (south-east) to Slivnitsa (north-west), via the city center, while blue line 2 runs in a loop from the airport T2 (north-east) to James Baucher (south) via Obelya (north-west).
The subway is clean, efficient and fast way for transportation. It gets crowded at peak hours (7:00 -9:30 & 17:00-19:00). The cost of the ticket is 1.60 leva and can be bought from the cashier or the ticket machine at the entrance to the station.
Bus, trolley bus and tram tickets cost 1.60, can be bought from the machine just behind the driver’s cabin or the driver himself. The ticket is valid only for the journey of the particular tram/bus.
Daily weekly and monthly transportation cards can be bought from kiosk usually near bus stops.
The fine for travelling without ticket cost 20 leva and must be paid on spot.
TAXIS
Maximum fares are 1.30 leva daytime and 1.60 leva nighttime. Fares are displayed clearly at the front window of the cab as well as dashboard. All the taxis in Bulgaria should have the name and contact number of the company as well as ID number of the driver.
The best way is to order a taxi by phone, instead of catching one on the street
